Before choosing to pursue any profession the pros and cons of entering that particular field of work need to be weighed. In a survey by the National Education Association that appeared on the organization's website during a two week period, 79% of the respondents said they would consider going into teaching compared to the 21% that said they would not.
Another interesting aspect of working a couple of hours a day is that one can take up a couple of jobs part time. For instance, as a freelance writer one can take up a couple of assignments along with a proper part time job, as editorial staff, or teaching staff to ensure a fixed income.
Knowledge and experience are two aspects of life, upon which ones foundation, as well as entire life depend upon. And finding the right teachers is not impossible, but definitely difficult. This is because with the nature of educational institutes that exist, most teachers tend to work under a lot pressure, and they tend to vent out their frustrations on the students. Or then, they simply do not do justice to the subject or lesson they have to teach.
This brings about the need for the mushrooming coaching classes and home-based tutors, all of whom work on a part-time or student-convenient timing.
It is in such institutes that one can find enough of teaching part time jobs.
What is most important to take up such a job is that one should have complete mastery over the subject.
The individual need not be a qualified teacher, as such.
Obviously, choosing teaching as a career must have some rewards if so many people are considering entering the education field. One of the positive reasons swaying people to become teachers is that teachers are able to have very flexible schedules.
When teaching at a coaching class one needs to ready for a larger responsibility than that taken by the teachers at the regular schools and colleges. This is because the coaching classes are goal oriented. They are set up to provide complete study material to the students and see that they excel in the subjects they enroll for.
The growing number of part-time instructors teaching in community colleges poses both disadvantages and advantages for the teachers and students involved. Part-time teachers complain that the pay is low, fringe benefits denied, and there is no security in assignment or permanent employment. There is a lack of status with the full-time faculty resulting in minimal inclusion in the department, division, or total institution, little support from counselors and other auxiliary departments, no assurance of the small amenities such as a desk or a parking space, and peripheral contact with the information sources in the institution.
On the other hand, the advantages that part-time instructors enjoy include opportunities for internships or to test different methods and techniques; a paying position offering college instructor status while permitting flexibility in scheduling; an escape from non rewarding duties; some social contact; and a sense of accomplishment. In addition, older part-time students (the average age is approximately 30) benefit from teachers with some "life experience" and part-time instruction is less expensive for the institution than contracted and tenured instruction.
Most of the employing coaching classes require part time teachers in the evenings, as well as during vacations. These are times when students can attend the classes and need it most. These jobs also pay well.
Part time teachers may be paid on an hourly or per student basis. In fact, highly placed professionals, who have mastery over their subjects take up such jobs to spread their knowledge and experience, as well as earn extra, because of their passion to teach.
